Gear indicator switch puzzle?
Anybody had trouble getting hold of the correct gear indicator switch? I removed the faulty switch from the cases of my GT550M and ordered a new one. When the new one arrived it was in a genuine Suzuki bag bearing the correct part number 37710-33112 but was significantly different to the one which I removed, and would not fit when I tried to bolt it on. The old one was made of black plastic and was diamond shaped. The replacement is a round alloy unit with a larger diameter shaft. To complete the puzzle, the Suzuki parts manual shows a diamond shaped unit just like the one I removed, but lists the part number as per the round alloy unit supplied by Classic Suzuki Parts in Holland.
Any information would be welcome.

Re: Gear indicator switch puzzle?
Hi
Maybe, the engine has been replaced, with some older version? The " J " model engine needs a gearindicator, part no.: 37771-15002. (Simply a "neutral" indicator, i think). Check the engine number, and i`ve trye to find out.
Best regards

Hi Leif,
No - the switch I have removed is a full gear position and neutral indicator which worked until recently. It is just a different shape to the replacement, and made from plastic rather than alloy.

Re: Gear indicator switch puzzle?
Hi Leif,
Many, many thanks for the link. This explains how the design of the gear indicator was changed. The crankcase was also changed and the new style gear indicator switch (37710-33112) is not compatible with the old crankcase. This is why I cannot get it to fit my engine. I need the old part (37710-33111). The GT550 parts manual does not give this number.
