Carberator cleaning Empty Carberator cleaning

Has anyone found a solvent to use to let the carbs soak for cleaning? I am currently using carb cleaner to get most of the dirt, grime. How about the passages? I don't have compressed air on hand so I am using the carb cleaner to spray them out.
