I NEED A STARTER MOTOR!
Hey guys,
Im trying to figure out if I can find a starter motor pretty easily for my bike. I finally decided to pull it out to see what the problem was and it appears as though oil got inside of it and just got everywhere. there is crap all over the housing and end caps. . . and one of the copper coils has broken its tip off.
Is it worth the time and effort to try to fix this? or should I just try to find a new one? If so, How much can I expect to pay and does it matter if I find a kokusan or denso motor? Mines the kokusan. . . Help me out guys. She kicks over great!!! but finding nuetral is a pain in the ass. especially since my nuetral light doesn't work. . .(yet another problem to be fixed ) well any suggestion is a good one at this point.
Thanks, KH

You can get a new old stock motor (both types) from Simon Hatch. He currently lists them at £65. www.suzukisimon.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

Well i might be forced to buy from him, but shipping costs would probably make that price double for me in the far west United States. Im hoping to find something a little closer... Maybe a little cheaper too.

Hey guys who knows what starter motor was on the 1974 gt550? mine had the kokusan, but i thought it might be the denso. Or does it even matter? will both work? was one better than the other?

Thanks, its either going to be that one or one that Ive found in montana. Suzuki Simon over in the U.K. would put me at about $200 by the time it got here. $70 sounds a little more managable.

Got the motor sooner than I thought! Tested and works. Now Ive just got to get my bike back together so I can enjoy the wonders of the electric starter.

Starter Motor Required Power
Hey guys,
I got my new starter motor installed and ready to go. Battery was at 80% and electric start fired the bike 3 times then had insufficient power to start it again. Does it really drain the battery that quickly, or am I having a problem keeping a charge?

How old is the battery - they go off real quick - I leave mine on an "Optimate" - you can kill it quite quick - especially if you're starting below 100% charge....

Battery is about two months old. It shouldn't die that quick right? Ive been charging it over night. Ill find out later this afternoon. . . hey, does your starter motor start when the bike is in gear if clutch lever is pulled in?
