tape measures out please

can someone tell me the size of a GT550 engine please? i have secured the purchase of one for a "Street special" project, and have a friend in a breakers measuring the "desired frame" so to save me some time finding out the size of the engine, and therefore less chance they will sell the frame, can you help please ?????

Just run tape measure over engine in the frame,approx 20" long 22" wide & 16" high

these are the measureements I've been given for the frame I had in mind


Front fixing point 235mm
Bottom fixing point middle 225mm
Bottom fixing point rear 125mm
Frame width at widest/narrowest point 365mm/210mm
Top frame rail 280mm longest edge, 260mm shortest edge.

liddd, would you be a good'un and measure front mount to top of engine please, my frame guy is going to measure the front mount to top frame rail for me

Is the width measurement engine bottom end, if so could you measure the head width for me please?

Hi matey,no probs,from ctr of front mounting to top of ram air cover is 295mm.Yes the width measurement i gave you was total width of motor.The width of the 3 barrels is 360mm, it then tapers down to 335mm across the top of the ram air cover,if that makes any sense to you.

what if any effect would the removal of the Ram Air covers make on the running of the bike? I ran a GT 250 without the ram air, but not sure about the 550? As it would give me just that little bit more room in the frame of choice.

Not sure what effect it would have on motor Suzuki added some strange gimmicks to various models during the seventies,or changed them around.Why put a gear position indicator on the dash If you dont know what gear ur in should not be riding a motorbike Rode a GT250A with no ramair cooling, but does aid to the cooling of the motor The earlier model had ramair but prior to that open fins, so what has changed Quack triples where always open fins & Yams Changed my TL1000s to streetfight taking all the SRAD out & just scooping air straight to throttle bodies
