CB POINTS SPARKING

Chaps,

A bit of a basic question but would appreciate comment.

When I start my GT550M and run it with the points cover removed I can see all three sets of points sparking. Should they be doing this or does it indicate that the condensors aren't doing their job? The engine runs reasonably well but the sparks at the plugs aren't that bright and the engine smokes a bit much.

Look to your condensors my friend - they are supposed to stop it happening....

You will never completely get rid of SOME sparking, even with new condensors, but you will reduce it considerably. If you are getting big sparks on each set of points with every rotation of the points cam then, yes, new condensors are indicated.

Hi roverman,have you thought of converting to a Boyer electronic system,easy to set up it actually sparks at plugs on every stroke.Lovely blue spark and no messing about with gaps, holes in contacts and no condensers to worry about

Thanks for all your answers, Chaps. I will fit some new condensors and see if that reduces the sparks at the points. As for electronic ignition - yes I would like to fit one. Newtronics seems to be everyones favourite for 2-strokes but they have gone bust. The company in London which now markets their systems has a back-order book for GT-triple systems - they told me that they are awaiting production of certain components. Is the Boyer system system a good alternative, and where can I get one?

Got mine on Boyer Bransden web site,you can order on line posted quick.The unit you need is Mark 111 its for kwak triples origanally but it comes with a data sheet for suz triples,the only difference is the wiring colours.Very easy to set up just follow instructions,time engine off your center pot found it to be spot on when i dropped strobe on it.
